Hi, my Yorkie is in pain. He yelps if I pick him up the wrong way and he's behaving like he's done something wrong. I just took him out and he pood OK. He usually shakes his fur out (to get rain off), but has stopped himself in his tracks from doing it, like he knows it will be painful. He's shivering a lot too. He also can't jump up on the couch. Let me know if anyone can help. Thank you.

The person who can help is your Vet - have you made an appointment?
Your dog is obviously in pain!~

Thank you, yes I have made an appointment for tomorrow. Tried to get in tonight, but they took a quick look and told us to come back tomorrow because they were closing. Just thought I'd see if there were any vets online who might give me some peace of mind overnight.

There's really nothing even a vet can offer online.
The only advice we can give you is to keep him comfortable, don't let him run around too much, or jump up on things. This could be a back issue, a leg issue, an obstruction, a wound so many different things. It could be something minor, or something major, which is why the vet is really your only option.
Keep an eye on him, if he gets worse, refuses to eat or drink, stops going potty, then I would highly suggest going to an emergency vet.
I hope everything is okay.

Fingers crossed is "just" a sprain - keep him quiet and comfortable. That might be easier said than done.
PLEASE come back and let us know -

Hi, thanks for the advice. In the end I took him to the 24hour emergency vet and got him checked out, just in case. They haven't found anything physically wrong with him and have also checked his bloods to ensure his organs are all OK - all results were healthy. He run out of the vet like lightning and eat a bowl of meat when we got back. Hopefully he was just having a bad day. He even managed to run up the stairs and is currently curled up under the bed. I'll post if there are any changes, but he appears to be on the mend from whatever it was that was causing him pain.xx

Bless you - we read post after post from people who want on line advice but don't have the time or money to take the dog to the Vet.
You have a lucky dog!

It could be that his back was bothering him, or he ate something that didn't agree with him.
We all have bad days. Sadly, when a dog does, he can't tell us "I really just don't feel good today".
I'm glad he's in good health. Do keep an eye on him for the next few days, and if he shows symptoms of pain again, go to your regular vet for a follow-up.
We'd love pictures of the little guy. :)

Hmmm... Yorkie... Back pain... Probably inter vertebral disc disease (IVDD)... The pain will come and go, and if you don't pick IVDD dogs up a certain way, they will display pain. Only x-rays will diagnose this..
Just my guess though.. but if I were you, I'd make an appointment with your regular vet.
Sad to say, but I think you kind of wasted your money...

Hi, Eric has improved a lot today. Still not 100%, but I would say 80%. I've been looking at how to attach a photo, but it doesn't seem to be obvious. I work in an office, so I'm usually pretty OK with that type of thing. Anyway, I can assure you all that he's the cutest little fur ball that ever existed. Fingers crossed he doesn't have IVDD, but I'll keep an eye on him and will have him in for review if necessary. Thanks again :) xx

I've been on here for years and I can't figure out how to attach photos. (Alty knows but she's being mean and won't tell me.)
SO glad you came back with the update. Let's just hope it's a sprain and that's the end of it.
His name is Eric? I LOVE dogs with "people" names.

To attach a photo: It needs to be on your hard drive first. Know what you "named" it, so you can find it again. Go to the Quick Answer response box, click on the Go Advanced button below it, and look for the little paperclip along the top frame of the more advanced answer box that pops up. Click on the paperclip icon, and Bob's your uncle!

"And Bob's your uncle?" Midwest phrase? Laughing - and OFF to try it out.

It's a British thing. I was just watching the YouTube of Susan Boyle's singing debut on "Britain's Got Talent." That's my picker-upper video.

To quote you - "just my opinion" but I see you on board after board spreading your disapproval of this, that and the other thing. Kind of you to defend the OP (or whatever you think you are doing), but the OP UNDERSTOOD and wasn't offended.
Me? I'm offended
You do nothing but criticize - https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/adult-sexuality/how-ask-oral-sex-678488.html. I realize you believe oral sex is unnatural or illegal or immoral or something - but I see nothing helpful posted anywhere, not even an opinion - just a lot of criticism.
Well, back to this thread - where were you when this person was looking for assistance.
Why not post on the religious boards where you can get it out of your system and not interrupt the flow on the other boards?

And to lighten the mood... here's a photo of the little guy who caused all the fuss (subject to the upload working). Bob's your uncle and Fanny's your aunt.xx

Oh, that face! He's adorable! I'm a big dog person but the more I see little, portable dogs the more I think about the whole "big dog" issue.
He's so sweet.

How was that horrible? Wouldn't you want to know when you purchased something that was not worth the money paid?

Lucky, ignore Athos. He never has advice, he only posts to criticize. I doubt he even reads all the posts. He just likes to post to voice his opinion, be negative, and then leave.
He usually posts on the Religious forum, where his sort of behavior is the norm. Must be slow in that forum right now, since he's decided to once again venture into other areas and state his 2 cents worth.
If you want to see the extent he'll go to, look at his other posts. He and I got into it a while back on another thread, where I tried to explain to him that he either posts advice, or butts out, his comments aren't welcome. He didn't get it.
Other then that, he's not worth getting upset about. He only posts to hear himself talk, since he has absolutely nothing to contribute.

Lucky, couldn't agree more - every now and then he ventures off the religious zealot board and onto another board to lecture about the dangers of sex, porn and rock and roll.
Check the history - some of it is fascinating!
