The kitchen sink pipe leaks.

An old pipe from the sink, is leaking water close to where the pipe disappears into the concrete foundation of the house, in the basement. There was clearly a previous attempt to patch the pipe, as the foundation has been cut into here, leaving a space where water has now collected, and is constantly added to-each time the sink is used. We can tell where the hole in the pipe begins (right where it enters the concrete), but we cannot tell how far it goes, without hacking further into the foundation.

I see from previous posts that you have recommended replacing this type of piping with PVC, but my Q is this:

Ho far into the foundation can we hack, without damaging the foundation, or being told by insurance co's that they can pay for the damage because we cut into the foundation?

Is this pipe into the floor or side wall. If into floor, how close to the outside wall is it?

More info please.
