How do I configure a 120 volts 60hz woodworking tools bought in the usa to work on a 240 volts 50hz power rating in my country without having to compromise the motor operation. I understand that the stepdown transformer can only reduce the voltage but not the cycles. That means that a tool with 60hz will produce lower efficiency since its running on a 50 hz rating ?

The short answer is the motor will heat up and most likely get damaged,even if only providing the nameplate voltage.

The long answer is explained very clearly and easily understood by someone that had the opportunity to test units under real situations, and provides reasonable solutions.

The motor can be removed and rewound at a motor winding shop. Not sure of the cost of this but my friend had it done on a central vac unit that was designed for 50 hz ( european bound electrolux) Fortunately for him his aunt worked at a winding shop so cost was not an issue but it might be worth checking into.
