I have my temp set to 75 but the t-stat temp keeps going up to reach up to 81 and doesn't drop for the rest of the day so my unit does not turn off... wat could be wrong?

What could be wrong... your a/c isn't working right... you need to call someone to check it out and fix it.

Some areas of the country right now are experiencing very warm temperatures. Many A/C systems were not designed to control such high temperatures and cannot keep up with the high heat load. Most units are designed for max of 20 to 25 degrees TD. That is Total differential between the outside temperature and the indoor temperature. So if it is 100 degrees outside it may not cool lower than 80 degrees inside etc. Also humidity plays an important part in comfort as well as A/C interior load. High humidity distracts from the lowering temperature of the A/C unit till most of the humidity is removed. These are just the facts. As the other poster said you might want to have your A/C system looked at and tweaked to bring it up to maximum efficiency but your system is working now just not as well as it might. Note open all registers, check to be sure the cold air return is also open and not blocked, and make sure all filters are clean or replaced.
