More than one month ago a counterfeit check was allowed to clear my citibank account for more than 1500 dollars. The check was completely counterfeit, the signature was not even close and the check stock used does not even match mine. When I first contacted the bank they immediately admitted that this was an obvious counterfiet check but assured me that the problem would be addressed and my money would be returned to me. I filed all the necessary paperwork, visited the bank on more than one occasion, but to this day almost 6 weeks since I first complained about the problem I still do not have my money back. It isn't enough money to make it worth while to hire a lawyer but it is still a very very significant amount to me.
Is there anything I can do to force the bank to turn over my money that they lost?

Hello FLACO:

You need to speak with someone who can tell you exactly what's going on. Call them up and find that person. Be polite, but don't hang up till you've found that person. Once you have found that person, they'll tell you that the bank 1) will refund your money and when you can expect it, or 2) they won't.

If they won't, I'd sue them in small claims court. You don't need (and probably aren't allowed) a lawyer. Plus, it's quick, cheap and easy.

PS> My little devious mind tells me there's something else going on here. My little devious mind tells me the bank thinks so too. I speak from experience. This exact thing happened to me a short time ago. My bank, Bank of America, gave me back my money immediately, and only then started their investigation.
