I have recurring episodes of severe lower left abdominal pain. Might go 2-3 days with no pain or a few hours, but it always returns and has been like this for about 2 months. I had a serious about with diverticulitis in spring 2011; had numerous tests last summer including a colonoscopy, which all showed clear except for diverticulitis. It is a burning pain which will usually (not always) radiate toward the back ending up on top of the hip bone. If I'm sitting, the pain is so bad it's hard to lift my left leg. Upon checking online, it seems this can be anything from gas to cancer, hoping someone has experienced this or has some ideas! Also, the pain is much worse if I lie on my right side..
The company I worked for closed so I am now between jobs which means no health insurance... still paying on last year... hoping I can figure something out myself

There are just so many causes of abdominal pain that it is impossible to list them all (not to mention you don't say what gender you are). I have chronic lower front left pain that is sacral nerve in origin, even though I have no back pain. If I were you I would arrange some sort of health plan (what are you still paying for?) and investigate university health clinics and low income clinics, as well as your state website for health plans.
And then be checked again, possibly for a recurrence of diverticulitis.

Yes, I recognize your symptoms and if you have diverticulitis you absolutely cannot eat anything with seeds, no tomatoe with seeds, no cucumber with seeds, nothing with seeds. If you like these veggies, then you will have to take the time to scrape out all seeds before eating.
This is the reason for the gas and the discomfort; some people feel the discomfort more then others, but the gas during these bouts of eating anything with seeds, is your clue that you have eaten something you were not supposed to have.
Be diligent about what you eat and you will be fine.

It never goes away. See my post. Diverticulosis (itis) can be deadly if not adhering to the diet your doctor has set out for you. And if not that, then peruse the net under both and find out what you can to be healthy while having this affliction.
Worse diagnosis is polyps forming on the outside of the intestines, in which waste matter accumulates to the point where they explode into the abdominal cavity, entering the blood stream. This is why a colostomy is essential. A bowel re=direct to the outside, with a stoma and a bag attached so that the bowels are emptied. Not a pleasant way to live but some people are able to enjoy life and sex, and yes sex, with this condition.
