View Full Version : Knocking pipes when water is running, only one sink!

Hello, I'm about to go crazy with this noise. My kitchen sink causes the pipes in the wall below it to knock, like a pulsating knock, ONLY when the water is running and ONLY my kitchen sink does this! Both hot and cold water cause the same issue. If you barely turn the water on so the flow is very low, it does not do this.

I've tried turning off the main into the house and draining all the pipes, and for now it seems a little lessoned, but still slightly there...

Does anyone have any other ideas? As a fairly handy single Mom, I'd at least like to have an idea before a plumber comes in and charges me more then I can afford...

Thanks!

What kind of faucet? Single handle or two knobs. Do you have a side spray?

Does it make the noise when you use the spray?

I actually don't use the side spray ever, it leaks.

Well try it and see. We are trying to determine what the cause of the noise is. It might tell us something. Using it might even make the noise go away.

Will do. I'm at work right now, but will give it a shot and let you know as soon as I get home! Thank you...

The first thing I would do is turn the water off and open up both the hot and cold ides to check and see if the washers are tightly secured. The next thing I would do is remove the retaining nut on the spout and lift it up and out. In front you will find the diverter. Clean out any trash around the diverter and put it back along with the spout. Now place a pan over the valve and turn the water back on for a moment to flush out the supplies. Reassemble and test. Knock gone now? Good luck, Tom
