Hello,
I have a 2003 troy-bilt riding mower model #13AP609G063 (LTX 1842) and when I bought the mower used the battery was dead so I replaced it. When I tried to start it the engine would only crank a little bit then hang up like the battery was not strong enough to crank it. I took the battery back to the store and had it tested and it was fine and of the right size. I checked all the usual connections to see if they were all okay and they were. I tried to jump start the mower with my jeep and as soon as I hooked up the jumper cables to the mowers battery it started no problem whatsoever? But without the jumpstart the mower will barely crank and then hangs. I also checked the adjustment on the valves and they were correct. I also tried another starter off another riding mower only to have the same result as before. Anyone have any ideas as to what might be the problem?

Thanks A lot

Hi,
A common problem and fix. You need to adjust the valves to 0.006". Refer to:
