I own my home. I have a roommate to help with monthly expenses. No written agreement. She informed me when moving in (4 years ago) that "3's company" and would not remain if I got another roommate. Ok with me.

In March, a good friend flew up from Mexico, where he's been living, because of health problems and ended up in ICU in Calgary for 4 weeks or so (almost died) then ,when discharged, ended up staying with me for 3 weeks recooperating before he headed back. (he looked like he was on deaths door). Things were really tense. She threatened to not pay the rent. I told her she'd then have to move out. Since he's been gone, she's been back to normal... actually, BETTER than she was before.

He will be back. Not for so long, of course, but I informed her of this possibility. She got contankerous again...

My question is: What are her rights in this regard? Is there grounds for any kind of recourse here? At this point, we are good friends, but when she gets ugly, it's not pretty! Know what I mean?

Check out "The Roommate Connection" it is a web site with links to many other sites that may also be helpful .I recently drafted a roommate agreement and found the site and links very helpful. Depending on your own states laws you generally have the upper hand but must give her notice of anywhere from 30-to 60 days to leave .Best of luck to you and hopefully things can be worked out amicably ,you should not have to feel guilty because your caring enough to help out a friend in need.
