Mousepad on lap top not working

Are you talking about the touch pad? If so what model laptop? You posted in the Macintosh forum so the most common problem in the MacBooks is that the battery fails and it swells and contacts the bottom of the touch pad if this is the case you will notice short battery life along with a dead or poorly functioning track pad
