View Full Version : Used a dirty needle

Hi I dropped a neddle on my bathroom floor, and didn't clean it, just put it in my hand, that was a week and a half ago, now my hand is swollen beyond reconition, it is tight red painful to the touch and when I move it, it is hot ans seems to be getting worse by the day, my heart rate has also been really high the past couple days, I am dizzy, unfocused, and I feel like I have a fever but I am frezzing, I don't want to go to the er because I am embarressed by the situation, but I need to know what to do!! Please please help me what do I do

Well... you can go to the ER... something you don't want to do... or maybe die.

Your choice... there really isn't a third option.

I guess I am hoping it will just take care of its self, that kind of my quiestion, will it just take its course?

No, it won't run its course. Go to the ER or your doctor.

A number of things... including blood poisoning. None of them good, some might progress to the point the human body assumes room temperature.

Sounds like you have a very nasty infection. It won't get better without medical intervention.

If it's septicemia, the death rate is high -- more than 50% for some infections.

And if it's cellulitis you could lose your hand.

Been down that road in 2002 -- cellulitis in left leg below the knee, was in the hospital for two weeks on IVs, then finally home with IVs for two more weeks. Could have lost my left foot, but didn't because I went to the ER in record time.
