My 3 year old cat has recently suffered from sever hairballs making him vomit sometimes up to 3 times a day. I've tried combing him everyday and giving him laxatone, with little relief. My vet highly suggests shaving him aka giving him the lion cut. I will do anything to make my baby feel better. They are fully sedating him and performing surgery on Wednesday. This Mom is a wreck. I'm afraid he's going to be depressed and how he will interact with his brother cat and what is it going to feel like to pet him? As like other cat mommies probably would be, I'm very upset about how this will effect him. Please share your good stories. :)
Thanks!

One of my rescued cats is a part Maine Coon with a VERY thick coat. I bought a brush called a Furminator (on Amazon and on other sites). We brush him every other day, and he no longer throws up hair balls. The worst thing in the world to do is shave a cat.

My vet said there is no reason not to shave him. He's an indoor cat.

Try the Furminator. They're cheaper on eBay. Shaving a cat is evil. They live to groom themselves.

We have a grooming facility connected to the clinic where I work.
While I have never shaved on of my cats I have known many clients that shaved their cats.
I do know the furminator works great on dogs I can only imagine they work well on cats too.
I think my concern would be with the sedation, though usually safe there are risks.
Would they not be willing to try first without the sedative/anesthesia? (If you go that route)
Depending on the cat it can be done without it, believe it or not.
