I'm nineteen and want to obtain custody of my younger brother whom is fourteen and currently living with his abusive father and step mother. How do I go about this? DHS(in Victoria) are already involved and are assessing things but this is not happening quickly enough for my liking. How and where would I go to apply for custody? In Queensland whilst he's in Victoria?

Do you have a job? Can you provide food, housing, security, etc for your brother? Do you have a full time job? You will have to prove all this to the court. Also, the judge will take your age into account. You are young so being responsible for another life will be tough and the judge will make sure you know this. You'll need to contact the court in your county about it.

I don't have a job as I am raising my daughter whilst my partner works and supports us. I can provide all of the above for him and more. I have always held myself responsible for his life, as I have done with my other siblings. I know I will have to prove those things, my question is where would I go to apply for custody whilst we're in two different states? /:

Since DHS is involved you can't do anything until they finish their investigation. If you get an attorney, they may be able to speed the process.
