I have a Maytag bottom freezer, side by side refrigerator that is about 5 years old. It has a panel inside with a plus and a minus... the minus goes down to 33 degrees and when I try to get it higher... like 40 degrees, I push the plus, but then it begins to escalate far above 50 degrees and everything freezes! I have pushed both plus and minus when frustrated... it was up to 58 degrees last night... this morning it was 33 degrees and I didn't do anything. Can't find my manual.

Follow the instructions in this manual: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8010163/Maytag%20Refrigerators/Maytag_Amana_Bottom_Mount_refrig.pdf
Try to get it between 35° and 38°. The freezer should be at least 0° or -5° for an ice maker to work. Before adjusting your refrigerator make double sure to clean the coils under the unit or you will burn up the compressor and it's not covered under warranty or home repair insurance if this happens. Remove front kick plate to slide out defrost water pan and unplug and remove rear cover where you can see coils. Spray them down with spray cleaner like 409 or Simple Green and wash off with light spray from water hose nozzle. It sounds extreme but this is the best and fastest way to do this because of greasy dirt that cannot be removed by just vacuuming. Once clean you replace everything and check temp after a few hours, then when you make an adjustment wait 24 hours to check temp unless it is too cold in fresh food section.
