I'm guessing that you, or his mother, or someone he lives with has been giving him that attitude.

Who is the adult here, you or your grandson? He doesn't have a choice in the matter.

I suggest that you do this. Arrange a meeting with the father in a neutral place. Tell the boy that you are going somewhere but that you aren't telling him where; it's a "surprise". Then introduce him to his father as someone he should get to know (not telling him who, at first).

You should realize that if you don't do your best to facilitate this, you (or the custodial relative, if that's not you) can get in hot water with the court.

If he doesn't get to know his father now, he may well never do it. All too many times I have seen where the child is the ruling factor and the custodial parent(s) let the child decide. It is not the child's place to decide until they become of legal age. As a parent, if there are no other problems with the absentee parent, then arrange for a meeting. The worst thing a person can go through is never knowing a parent. It may not when they are small but when they become adults, (we) we all have questions from our past.
