I'm opening a used car dealership in Pennsylvania and am applying for the $20,000 surety bond that the state requires. Unfortunately, we had declared bankruptcy close to 2 years ago. Because of this, the surety company wants our checking and savings account numbers. I have big money between these 2 accounts and am uncomfortable giving this information out. I am told I will not get a bond without giving the information.

It makes me incredibly nervous to do this. I have a queasy feeling in my stomach that I will wake up and my accounts will be empty.

Is it normal procedure to ask for account numbers? What else can I possibly do here? Without a bond, all the time and money I have spent getting this off the ground is out the window.

If there are claims against you, though them, you are liable to pay them back, Also yours is most likely by this carrier considered a high risk due to the bankruptcy,

Perhaps open another account for business with out so much money in it, to use for this purpose ? I would never keep a larger amount of money in a business account, you can't even start to think of the areas of fraud I have seen happen. Many business have a operating account, and they put in just what they need to operate on for that week or two week period

But you can shop around, normally if you are part of an association, they will have preferred companies at reduced rates.
