Hi I'm a heir of 2 properties of my father who did not leave a will. I was advised by my attorney to file a judgement of possession on the 2 properties 3 years ago. As far as I know his wife and my 2 half brothers haven't sold the properties. My question is under Louisiana law do they have to notify me before puttng properties up for sale? I was told by another attorney that they would only need to put an add the paper notifying me that they would be selling the properties. I don't live in the same parish so it would be next to impossible for me to see it notified in the newspaper. I'm so confused and aggrevated as I'm 2500 out of pocket and don't know anymore than I knew before. Hope you can give me some insight. Thanks!

I find it strange that they need only put an ad in the paper when they know your address. However Louisiana law is strange to most American lawyers who do not practice in that state, myself included.

You couldn't explain what a judgment of possession is, could you?

How is it that you are the heir if his wife is still living? Louisianna intestate laws are quite complicated but I don't see you as an heir unless you were already on the deeds. Louisiana Intestate Succession Laws (http://www.medlawplus.com/library/legal/states/louisianaintestatesuccession.tpl)
