I was given an original oil and told it was valuable. Trying to identify the artist.

Good luck. Sadly, we'd need a lot more info in order to help. There are millions of paintings and artists out there. With the info you gave, we wouldn't even know where to begin.

I can send images of the above mentioned painting

That would be very helpful. If you can read the signature on the painting, and get a close up of the signature, and then a full shot of the painting, that would really help narrow it down. :)

If the photo is on your computer it's pretty simple.

Click on the "Go Advanced" button on the bottom of the screen that you post in.

After that you will see a paperclip on the top row of the posting box.

Click on the paperclip.

A new window will open.

Click on browse. Find your picture. Double click on the picture.

Click the "upload" button.

When the picture is loaded, you'll see a link pop up.

Close the manage attachments window. Click back on the paper clip, your link will be there.

Click on that link, and then post as normal.

You have now posted a picture. :)

You can post up to 5 pictures per post.
