My outside conderser 18 year old York 3 ton unit sprung a leak. The home warranty company sent someone out and they said they will replace it. The a/c never cooled very well anyway. If during the heat of the day 90 - 105 degrees outside, it would take hours to cool 1 or 2 degrees. Now that it is broke I asked them if they could "upgrade" it to cool it better. They had to check out the evaporater, and found out that I have a 3 ton condenser outside, a 3.5 ton furnace, and a 5 ton evaporater coil. They have not gotten back to me yet so I thought I would try to arm myself with info.
My question is can they put a 4 ton unit outside with the other stuff still remaining inside? Or are they going to have to match everything up?
My guess is that they will try to deny any claim as they are an insurance company. I just need some guidance please. What should I do to get the best cooling possible with changing the least amount of parts?
