Hi
I had a collection agency contacting me for a couple years on and off about an apartment I rented with an ex boyfriend. He owed just under 600 for a rent he left behind when he moved out (this was back in 2007-08 maybe, and I moved out when we broke up) I didn't find out about this owing until a couple years ago. Anyway, he filed bankruptcy and the collectors are now asking me for the 491 left over after his trustee gave them 178 for the debt owing. If I wait 6 years (another year or two) according to Manitoba law, can it be wiped off my credit report? The damage is already done and paying won't help much on that front, and my bank is still OK with borrowing me money, so I have no reason to pay other than getting them off my back. They say they'll sue me and show up at my work to embarress me with serving papers but I think they're bluffing. Does anyone know if waiting is best? There hasn't been any payments made since this came about, unless the trustee from my ex's bankruptcy counts towards it for my part in this. (gimme a break I was 19 and in love and obviously stupid enough to sign a lease and walk away). Lesson learned.
