When I started renting a room from my current landlord, I informed him that I had a dog. This was fine at the time of the move in. I have been there for about 7 months. A new recent roommate has moved in and ever since he moved in there has been an issue with the dogs. (IE dog hair, dirt--he has allergies) Now my landlord is saying I must keep my dog outside 24/7, that she is not allowed in the house at all. Is this legal??

Did you pay a fee to be allowed to have a pet or not. Are you month to month or have a written lease?

I have a written lease. As far as a pet deposit, he said one was not necessary.

Look at it this way... if you cause problems then you won't be there a day after month 12... because they will simply tell you they want you out and not renew anything. Even if you win the battle you will lose the war.

Like the quotes. Quite accurate.

I am currently looking to move anyway. Just wanted to know if there was any backlash I can give him before I go.

Not a good idea... they can make the next 5 months a living hell for you... and do it in ways they would not violate a single law. And if your crossed a single line have you in breach of contract.. evict you AND still hold you liable for the next several months rent. They can take their merry time finding another renter.

Plus you don't need an unfavorable reference for anyplace you may go next.

This is one of those times... even if you win, you lose. Sometimes its in your best interest to just do it and let it go until you can move on.

Incidentally... is this one of those pocket dogs... ( like a Yorkshire Terrier, toy poodle etc) that really aren't suitable to be outside all the time... or a larger breed or a mutt that is?
