I requested a copy of my report from Trans Union and Equifax. Everything was in check until I looked at the 2nd to last page. My report says I've been sent to collections for non payment of $783 to Rogers. Here's the kicker. I've NEVER had any of Rogers services EVER!! Nor have I ever consigned for anyone. I gave Rogers acct receivable 7 days ago all the information and they have created an ID account. I called them today and they still haven't looked at it. I lost it on them an told them to submit an investigation and tag as urgent. I ALSO have to add. On my credit report it doesn't say the collection agency it has been sent to or does it have a reference number. Trans Union said I have to do the leg work. Rogers is taking their time. All while this affects my credit.
Thoughts? What the heck do I do. Again. I HAVE NEVER HAD A ROGERS SERVICE. Rigers also confirms with me I've never had a Rogers service based on my sin# and addresses.
I'm thinking once this is done and rectified I'll have many free Rogers services.
Thanks for looking
John

Any possibility this Rogers Communications (excuse me for not knowing who and what they do) purchased another debt you owed as frequently happens and are pursuing it?

In any case they are going to have to prove their claims if they try and sue you in court. In the mean time... in writing contest the validity of the debt with transunion... Rojers will have to prove its valid.

You should get credit reports from the other two big ones as well... in case they also have the same information.

As far as trying to blackmail them for free services... you better think twice... as that's a crime in itself.

Smoothy, Rogers is a phone/television/internet provider. They mostly provide cell phone service, but also provide internet and television services.

http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=rogers&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CIQBEBYwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.rogers.com%2F&ei=5WDNT_SUOoSy2QXmiLm9Ag&usg=AFQjCNHm3AOgvvmpv498cCV3t6XZRDdZZg&cad=rja

They're based in Canada.

I'm not a legal expert, but I had almost the same thing happen. My father had a cell phone through Rogers. He had a 3 year term, but as part of the agreement, if anything should happen to my father, the term was null and void. Well, a year into the term, my father passed away. They started hounding my mother for payment. She wrote to them, told them that my father had passed, and sent a copy of the death certificate.

6 months later my mother passed away. For the last 4 months of her life she lived with my husband and me. All her mail was being sent to our home. A year after my father died and my mother sent the death certificate to Rogers, they wrote again asking for payment in excess of $400. I wrote to them, told them my father had passed away, and sent them another copy of the death certificate.

For over 5 years after my fathers passing I received monthly letters from Rogers. Rogers hired a collection agency. I sent multiple letters, with multiple copies of the death certificate to both Rogers and the collection agency. After a few years I started returning these notices (all addressed to my father) back with the words "he's deceased!" written in black felt pen. I'd get a letter back asking for a death certificate. I'd write back "check your files, I've sent dozens".

I wish I could say this worked. When we decided to purchase a new car, the "outstanding" bill from Rogers showed up on a credit report. Even though this was not a contract we entered into, and the contract stated that death rendered the contract null and void, we ended up settling for $200 just to get it off our credit report. :(

If I were you, I'd hire a lawyer. If my past experience is anything to go by, Rogers won't settle this.

Rogers Communications is one of our BIG3 cellular providers. My credit report shows they have sent me to collections. I HAVE NEVER HAD THERE SERVICES.. . EVER. Rogers has even confirmed I've never had any cellular, Internet or cable services with them. I have ALWAYS used Bell. So this debt in their eyes and mine is bogus. I owe NOBODY any $$$. BUT. I've been sent to collections by Rogers and they don't know why nor can they find me in their system.
I won't blackmail them. I will simply ask what they will do to reimberse me for MY time wasted and stress this has caused. They will in turn ask what I want them to do. I will then lay it on them.
I've never heard of something like this. My credit is clean and any debt I incure is paid off as agreed.

Johnny, I don't want to scare you, but to me this sounds like identity theft. Either that or a computer error.

I don't understand why this isn't resolved if Rogers has stated that you were never a customer of theirs. Makes no sense at all. Then again, I'm not really surprised. I had to pay for a cell phone service that should have been null and void as soon as my father died. I paid for it 8 years after he passed, even though they stated time and time again that all they need was a death certificate to confirm he had passed. I sent them dozens.

I ended up paying. I hope you don't have to.

Good luck.

You won't get reimbursed for your time... sorry, but this is one of those aggrivations in life you deal with...

Write Transunion and dispute that you ever had an account... they will make Rogers prove it to them its valid and actually yours... mistakes happen and someone mistypes a number or name. It might get resolved as easily as that.

I really hope that for the OP, it does.

But, I've dealt with this company. All they wanted from me was a death certificate, and I sent dozens of copies, and one original to them, hoping that they'd finally realize that I didn't owe them any money. In fact, I even sent the cell phone back to them right after my father died. They sent a letter stating that they had received it, and I even got a letter stating they had received the death certificates. Yet the next month I'd get another bill demanding payment, and then another letter asking for a death certificate when I told them that the contract was null and void due to my fathers death.

I finally settled for $200 after 8 years of going back and forth and getting nowhere. I only did that because my credit was being ruined.

I never once had a contract with Rogers, and I have to say, I never will.

I've spoken with Trans Union. They are idiots and you can't understand them. They told me I need to clear it up with Rogers. Typos are Rogers problem not mine. The issue of them dragging their feet on this with a non customer is pissing me off. My time , my phone , my leg work and my stress.
Thanks

Was this in writing or on the phone... I meant contesting it in writing.

Can't figure that the rules for that are any different in the Great white north (Canada) than it is here in the USA with them. That's how the law is here in regards to the credit reporting agencies.

Johnny, good luck getting anything out of this. Your time and leg work isn't worth nearly as much as you think it is, not in a court of law.

They don't have to give you anything other than an apology.

Sorry. If you're hoping to be compensated for this, you're dreaming. You can sue, that's your right, and anyone can sue for anything they want. But, it's very doubtful that you'll win. If Roger's fixes the issue, you're not out any money. You can only sue for pain and suffering (you were hurt in an accident and suffered actual pain) or financial loss (you're out money because of a company or individual).

Right now, the only thing that this situation has caused is anger and frustration. You can't be compensated for that.
