Can a lien by a creditor be put on social security benefits

If social security benefits are direct deposited in your bank account, then yes, they can be taken by a creditor freezing your account but only after they have a judgment against you. Anything in a bank account is fair game unless you can prove your deposits. If you don't want it taken, have the direct deposit cancelled and have it sent to you home or a post office box.

That is NOT CORRECT! As long as you can prove that the funds that were direct deposited to your bank account, which by the way is now mandatory, are SS benefits, they CANNOT be held/garnished by ANY creditor EXCEPT for the IRS or Federal Student Loan.
