PLease help! I just dropped my earring down the drain. The water wasn't running, it just dropped. Can I assume it's possibly still sitting in the pipe? My husband isn't answering his office phone and I am frantic. Please help me!

DO NOT RUN ANY WATER DOWN THE DRAIN! Not to worry, if you haven't run any water and flushed it further down in your drainage system your diamond earring is lodged in the bend of the trap. Remove the "J" bend of the trap and dump the water,(and your earring) out. Good luck, Tom

Thanks so much. My grandpa called me back and walked me through that drill. Thank goodness for the "J" trap. I appreciate your help!

This will get it back without a plumber or a wrench.

Don't panic its probably sitting in the trap under the sink as long as the water wasn't running. Remove the trap and fish out your earring. Just don't run the water!

Same thing over and over again I see, speedball, you had it right from the start. Why the repeats, I do not know. Maybe to help emphasize your point?

You DON'T have to remove the J trap. Put an old pair of panty hose over the end of the vacuum cleaner hose
Put the hose up against the sink drain for about 15 seconds and Voilą! Just saved me an earring. YAY.

Grateful, Good solution but you're piggybacking onto a post over two years old. Had you read the other posts you would have seen that she retrieved her diamond in the third post, Cheers, Tom

Same thing with me! I dropped my favorite necklace down the Drain 3 days ago. Of course the water ran . Im guessing my necklace is gone forever? I already tried the pantyhose- vacuum thing and it didn't work...

What drain did you drop your necklace down? If it was a toilet then chances are it's gone, however, a necklace is heavier then a ring or a ear ring so it may still be at the bottom of the trap.
Do not run water down the drain and tell us exactly what fixture you lost it in, Back to you, Tom

I lost it in the sink.

By "sink" do you mean the kitchen sink or the bathroom sink. I ask this because there's a difference in the size of the trap. Now describe the neckless. Was it heavy or light? Have you removed the trap yet to see if it had lodged there? If not why not? Good luck, Tom

Thank you so much for this idea! I dropped my beautiful diamond earring down the drain. The water was not running. I tried your idea for about 20 seconds, checked the stocking once, tried it again for a longer period and there was my diamond earring! I will share this with everyone. Thank you once again.
