Hi,

I just purchased a newly constructed condo, and it is a construction mess.

In particular, there have been numerous leaks from the HVAC secondary drain line (which drains into an interior space), apparently because the HVAC drain lines have no slope.

The builder “repaired” the HVAC system by adding a pump, and re-routing the secondary drain to the primary line. Now there is a pump and only one drain line from the HVAC system to the sink.

Is this permissible?

The second line should be independent. Usually required by the local codes. All they had to do was run the plastic tube from the condensate pump along side the 3/4 inch main drain and allow the pump to pumt the water directly to the drain instead of a route right back to the primary drain.

The reason for the 2nd drain is to act as a backup in case the primary is plugged up. If the primary drain now gets clogged the pump will do you no good because the secondary is pumping into the clogged drain. Not a smart way to prevent water damage.

Thank You!! :)

If the plastic tube from the pump is re-connected to the main drain line, what would happen if the pump stopped working?
The drain lines have no slope at all, and the secondary drain line runs to the primary drain line. If the pump stopped working, would the condensate leak into the walls?

Thank You Again!
