My ex girlfriend asked me to give up my parental rights so her husband can adopt her. Her lawyer contacted me and I signed the papers agreeing that I would. How long does it normally take for the adoption to go through... do I need a lawyer myself, and how long do I have to keep paying my child support ?

If you are agreeable to the adoption, then you don't need an attorney. I would, however read the paperwork her attorney sent carefully.
How long it takes can vary. Ask that you be informed when the adoption is finalized.
How are you paying support now? Through checks or payroll deduction or what? Ask her attorney to send you a copy of the order of adoption to prove you are no longer financially responsible for the child.

So, wonder which it is... do I have to keep paying the child support until its final or get a copy of the adoption order and it will stop. It is taken by payroll deduction and then I have to send a personal check to the mother for child care. It's been a month now and am afraid it is going to be drug out as along as possible to the mother and stepfathers benefit.

So contact the court and see what the status is. Until you have a court document that reales you from parental responsibility, support payments will continue.
