My generator won't start. I used sta-bil fuel treatment and then stored it for 3 years. I drained the fuel out of the tank and carb bowl (it was dark yellow) and added fresh fuel. When I try to start it, nothing happens, I pull and pull until fuel comes out into the air cleaner. (flooded) What do I need to do to get it running again? It has proper oil level. Also, where can I find part number for new spark plug for this 10 hp Briggs and Stratton OHV engine?

3 years is too long even for Stabil. Your needle valve in the float may be sticking open. The plug should only need cleaning if it has been sitting for 3 years.

Thanks for the reply. Is cleaning a needle valve a do-it-yourself project? I know that the float itself moves freely up and down but don't know the inner workings of a carb.

The plug would be a resistor "r" on the back of the number and either a j17lm, or j18lm or even a J8J will work.

If the needle is stuck open the fuel in the tank will run out of the carburetor when sitting, if this is happening you are probably better off bringing it in for a service. The job is not terribly technical but can be a little troublesome, and stinky!

Good luck,
