Hi, new here... trying to figure out why an ex-teacher who pled guilty to statutory rape in NY sometime in the past 5 years would not be listed on NY's sex offender registry. I don't think he was given a lesser charge as the summary document says he pled guilty and is no longer a teacher. That's a Class B1 felony, right? And I know he is still in NY so he couldn't have gotten away with not registering. And it was a female student of his, 15yr old with whom he had 'consensual' sex, but the consensual part is a moot issue, I believe, since statutory rape means sex with a minor which means the minor can not make the decision to have consensual sex. I am concerned that this guy is trying to go under the radar, so to speak, and engage in teaching 'projects', albeit not with the board of Ed. How do I find out his status?

Any suggestions most welcome, thanks.

I am assuming that you checked the web site to see if he was registered? There is a phone number on that website. If you are that concerned, as I would be in your situation, I would suggest calling and speaking with someone there and finding out why he is not showing up. Here is the link:

NYS Sex Offender Registry Home Page (http://criminaljustice.state.ny.us/nsor/index.htm)

There might have been a misfiling or an oversight. Someone has to speak up to find out why. And, I guess you are going to have to do it. If you are concerned that the ex-teacher will find out it is you that called, ask whoever answers the phone if that is a possibility, and that you want to remain anonymous because you are fearful of retribution. That should cover you.
