I am trying to install an O/S, and during the boot process my computer gets hung upon the following message, "Verifying DMI Pool Data". I can not get to a DOS prompt. I can not boot from the floppy, I have tried many different things, such as changing the boot sequence, trying to get to Safe Mode, and many others. Nothing seems to help. I could proabably boot from the CD , but there is no boot CD's.

Any suggestions?

The O/S I am trying to install is WIN 98. It is an older computer, but still has a lot of juice left in her!

Thanks

Dan

This may happen when you are using a startup diskette from another computer.
Try downloading a diskette from:
http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm
Also, set your BIOS to 'default factory settings', but take care to set it also to boot from the diskette drive first.
The WIN98 CD is not bootable.

HOw old a computer is it ? Did it ever work ? Several years ago Seagate and many other Hard disk manufacturers changed the CMOS on some of their drivers which made them incompatible with many older motherboards. Or you could just need to redo your boot disk.

I recently replaced my ATI Radeon 9250 PCI and 9550 AGP video cards, installing an ATI Radeon X700 Pro AGP card. Worked fine yesterday immediately after installation. But when I booted up today, got the Verifying DMI Pool Data hang.

Made sure I had my external hard drives off (always hangs if they're on), even removing all USB devices except keyboard and mouse. Still hanging.

Finally removed the new AGP card and put back in the PCI. Works fine.

But I really want to use my X700, since I started all this because of issues with the 9250 and 9550 in Everquest 2.

THoughts, suggestions? Coincidence that replacing AGP with PCI got rid of the problem? Or does the AGP have something to do with it? Is there something I should turn off [or on!]?
