I have a great artesian well. When you open up a 2" valve it is like a fire hydrant. today I put a pressure gauge on it after reducing the opening to a 3/4" size and was surprised that it only read 18 psi. Is this because of reducing it down to 3/4"? I plan on using 1.5" pipe from the well to the house and was hoping I could get away with not having a pressure tank. Maybe I need a pressure tank but artesian flow no pump. How do I figure it out? I'm doing most of this myself and this part is a bit mysterious. The house is only 416 sf with one shower, a kitchen sink and a bathroom sink. The toilet is a composting one and there is no garbage disposal, dishwasher, etc. The house is 225' from the well. Any advice about how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

s this because of reducing it down to 3/4"? No! Reducing the size reduces the volume not the pressure. At a well head pressure of 18 PSI and a 225 foot service line you're going to need a booster pump to increase the pressure up to where it's. Usable. Although some flats in the UK pipe their water up to a holding tank in the attic and let gravity do the rest. You can give it a try without a booster pump but to get average pressure you'll need a pump. Tom
