My a/c unit began leaking two weeks ago. The same day I noticed, I called property management and put in a maintenance request. The carpet is soaked on both sides of the wall, mold and mildew has grown, AND my boyfriend and I are starting to get sick. Three days ago I called again and still no answer again. I refuse to pay for damage to the wall or carpet because it's not my fault, but what are my rights as a tenant? I live in TX.

Send management a letter by overnight messenger signature required, stating that, if the situation is not repaired within 2 days, you will call someone to repair the unit, clean out the mold and replace the carpeting and withhold the cost from your rent.
I do have to say though, that an A/C should only leak if it is running. So if you continued to run the unit after noticing the leak, you may be held responsible for the damage caused by the leak.
