I am 48 and just been told I am in the Menopause. I have been having usual symptoms but the worst is crippling Migraines which sometimes appear twice a week sometimes every couple of weeks. I have taken Immigran and it works but you cannot take it too often. My doctor has prescribed me Amitriptyline 10mg at night or 20mg as she said this can help alleviate migraines or lessen the severity. I cannot take the Migraines as they are interfering with my work day but am nervous of taking this medication as I have been on anti depressants in the past. Could anyone advise me what they will make me feel like? I feel tired and groggy in the mornings anyway and don't want to feel worse. Doctor said I was obviously getting anxious and upset with the symptoms of Menopause and told me they would make me feel better in myself so more able to cope. I wondered if anyone has had experience of these and if they work/, and would they be better than say a specific migraine medication like Immigran which I take now. I have been told I can take this with the Amitriptyline if the Migraines still happen for a while until they ease a bit. Also any advise generally about how to cope with Menopause would be welcome. It seems to be causing severe symptoms that seem to get worse the more active I am, and I have to rest. I have to work to support myself so I have to get a grip on this. Thanks.

Just an update question . Has anyone tried Acupuncture for Migraine and does it work? Im thinking of trying this as a no medication method of controlling it? Thanks any advice would be appreciated.

I started having migraines once I hit puberty and would have them multiple times a week. I tried everything, even going to a specialist and getting an expensive (and scary) prescription. Then after years someone gave me some Excedrine migrane medicine and it worked perfectly. It has made my life so much better. The generic brand works just as well and is inexpensive. Just make sure the bottle says each caplet has 250 mg of acetaminophen 250 mg of aspirin and 65 mg of caffeine. I take two pills. This only works though if you do not consume a lot of caffeine regularly (like coffee every morning). Hope this helps!
