What is the difference between non-profit and not-for-profit organizations?

As I know of they are the same. It's just depends on what lingo everyone's used to.
A non profit exists as an organization that is not for profit. It does make an excess or a surplus that would in the for profit would be considered a profit but that goes towards employees' salaries and then gets re-invested into the company. So there aren't any million dollar bonuses like Goldman Sachs :p
