Computer one has P4 3ghz cpu, 2 gig mem, on board vid & aud and runs MS XP MCE 2005. It records and plays back over-the-air TV HD just fine. It also accesses Netflix shows with no problems.
Computer two has P4 3ghz cpu, 3 gig mem, pcie vid from ATI, and pci aud card from creative and is running XP Pro. Some Netflix shows are fine while others have audio/video sync problems. When trying to play o-t-a HD recorded on computer one, there is no audio with any program except VLC and with VLC
The audio is different by 0.06 sec, approx.
Both computers are fully MS updated. Not sure about drivers, etc.
Any hints are appreciated... Skip

I did some digging and apparently Netflix uses the Microsoft VC-1 codec.
Have you installed any codec packs? If you have then I suspect the problem lies somewhere in the settings.
Try the following:
1 - uninstall any codec packs additionally loaded, restart then check for any improvement.
Nothing?
2 - Reinstall the latest version of windows media player and silverlight.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/products/windows-media-player
www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/resources/install.aspx
Nothing?
3 - Install the following: together with the following link.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=19203
Still Nothing?
Other than that, mucking about with settings can take forever! Easy quick solution is to format your computer and start fresh. Do this only when all els fails, this will definitely solve the problem.
Hope this helps

Hi and thanks. You've given me food for thought. A refresher of my situation:
1) Computer 1, running XP MCE 2005 and WMP ver 10.
Computer 2, running XP Pro and WMP ver 11 is just inconsistent.
Some netflix shows are in sync and some shows are not. I
Even had an instance of the audio going in and out of sync
While watching the same show.
Computer 2, a second drive loaded fresh with XP Pro and WMP ver 9
Worked just fine with netflix the one time I tried. Will keep using
This drive to see if any of the inconsistencies show-up!
2) Computer 1 is the one I use to record over-the-air programs. It plays
The recorded shows just fine whether HD or not.
Computer 2, is in another room with the entertainment system so
I transfer the recorded shows from Computer 1 to 2 to watch them.
WMP 11 and Real Player have no audio when trying to play them.
VLC plays them but with, I believe, a consistent -0.6 sec audio
Offset. I'm surprised WMP 11 will not play WMP 10 recordings!
Computer 2, second drive has same results for vlc but WMP 9
Thinks they are audio recordings and don't work at all.
3) Present solution is to continue using freshly loaded drive for netflix
And continue using VLC with sync adjustment for playback.
I still wonder how a computer can be inconsistent from one
Show to another and, also, within the same show. And, it
Would be nice if someone could tell me what is peculiar about
The files recorded on my computer 1 that makes it different to
Playback on computer 2.

Tried watching a few more shows on netflix with newly loaded drive and all
Seemed to start just fine. However, at least one did go out of sync for 2-3
Minutes. None of my family have experienced sync problems and my
Other computer does not seem to have a problem. Guess I am about to believe
In Gremlins!
Any ideas??
