I'm asking this question on behalf of a friend of mine. This is his situation.

He will graduate in June 2007, but his F1 passport expires in May 2007. Can he stay in the country without having a valid passport for that one month.

Well if you mean F1 visa it is okay, what you may want to do is get your I-20 extended from the international office of the university where you are enrolled before it expires. You may then file for an OPT. For more information you should always ask you international advisor at International Office of Programs or International programs office at your Univ.
