View Full Version : Can vaccinated child be contagious if in contact with chickenpox?

My 2.5 year old daughter spend a lot of time with my 15 month old nephew last weekend (our families went on a trip together). 1-2 days after we said goodbye to them, my nephew broke out in chickenpox, although he already was vaccinated. My daughter has also been vaccinated, but I wanted to know 1) could she possibly get chickenpox from him? 2) even if she doesn't get chickenpox, could she still be contagious to other kids? I am scheduled to visit with a friend and her 2 week old infant tomorrow, and I do not want to make the baby sick if it's possible that my daughter could be "carrying" the illness. I need to know if we should postpone our time together and if I shouldn't let my daughter around other kids until we know for sure she's not going to get them. Also, how long would it be until the pox would begin to show up if she'd contract them, even after being vaccinated?

Thank you so much!
