A small red light is flashing next to the on/off switch for the ice-maker on my Kenmore side-by-side refrigerator. The switch is located on the top left wall of the freezer near the door opening. The light occasionally goes off, then starts again quickly. The ice-maker continues to make ice while turned on. The unit has a Pur water filter installed. In addition, the water coming from the dispenser is never cold.

This refrigerator is about 6 years old, in California.

If its not the filter... try checking the free-on... sometimes it needs to be filler like in a car

You never should add Freon unless there has been a leak found or the compressor has been changed. Unplug refrigerator, pull it out from wall and remove the rear cover and front kick plate. Slide out defrost water pan for cleaning and spray coils down with a spray cleaner like 409 or Simple Green. Then wash out coils with water hose nozzle until they are clean. You need to do this every year or you will lose the compressor. Put covers back on after replacing drain pan. The light should quit flashing. If not cleaned compressor will burn up.
