I went to court today because my daughters dad is behind on his child support and hasn't paid in 6 months but has had a job all the time. The judge told him that he has till June the 1st to pay me 500.00. Because he had no reason not to be paying and he is behind in child support for $10,000. He refused to give any information about how much he makes a month but We know that he makes 3400.00 a month. But he stated that child support has put a lien on his bank account for 8200.00 dollars. How long does it normally take to get that money. Now I know there is going to be some comments about this probably but he did it to himself because I didn't press the issue of him not paying because I was use to it. He would stop paying for about 6 months and then when they went to suspended his license he would start paying again. I have put up with this since 2008. And I am pretty much tired of it I didn't make my daughter alone he helped so he should support her he can take care of kids that are not his. But can't support her. So that is my question how long will it take to release the money to me that child support has put the lien on his account. There is always to sides to a story but he is just a dead beat dad to me. Especially when on his daughters 16 birthday he told her that she was a mistake and never should have been born.

Did you ever use public assistance? If so, his arrears may be used to reimburse the state before the money is turned over to you.

If not, how long it takes can depend on the agency. Have you contacted the caseworker to conform they have taken the money from his account? Generally, the account is frozen first for 7-10 days before its released to the party who placed the attachment.

No I didn't this is owed to me. No I just found out in court yesterday so I have to talk to child support and see thanks for the information. I will get in touch with child support and see what they say about it.

It is strange for it to be done, without you filing a motion for it. So you should have known since you would have done it. Next if he is behind for 10,000 it is strange that it would be just 8200 dollars.

You need to research this at the clerks office, ( plus your ex may be lying even to the court to try and not get one filed)

But it wll freeze the money giving him time to file in court to dispute it. Then it will be transferred to the state, and can take 30 to 60 days to get to you.

I would agree, you never got any type of assistance from a government agency, what about health insurance, any state program ?
