My autistic son flushed something into the toilet last night while doing his business. Not sure what it is, but now I have a problem.

The toilet water will drain very, very slowly after it is flushed - it will take 2 hours or so. When I then flush the toilet, it fills all the way up and again I have to wait 2 hours (or I just plunge it for 10 minutes) for it to drain.

I have tried plunging it for literally hours (and believe me, with my son I have become a plunging pro); used a bit of dish soap and a bucket of hot water; used a 3 ft auger; and then repeated everything above 4-5 times.

A couple of other things:
1) The water at first was obviously not pretty, but that has drained and now I am just dealing with the clean water from the tank (meaning nothing is coming back up).
2) The other toilet in the house, the shower, etc are working fine.
3) I am on a septic system which was pumped recently.

I would love some help on this - I have a tight budget (it is just me and my 2 kids) so anything would be really appreciated! Thank you in advance!

What kind of three foot auger did you use? If it wasn't a closet auger, that's what you need to try next. Run the closet auger in and out all the way a few times and see if things don't improve. If not, you will need to pull the toilet and take a look to see if you can see anything on the bottom side of the toilet, then run the closet auger up from the bottom side of the toilet. If no obstruction in the toilet itself, time to send a larger, longer auger down the toilet drain with the toilet removed. Please let us know how things work out.

Lee nailed it! Purchase a closet auger, (see image) and auger the toilet. Sometimes even a closet won't get it. In case the toilet will have to be pulled and the object removed from the bottom. If you run into that click on back and we'll walk you through the process. Good luck, n Tom
