Consider negatively charged particles moving through magnetic fields. Use the appropriate hand rule to determine the direction of the unknown force, field, or velocity. Make a sketch to help you visualize the correct orientations for each known force, field, or velocity. (Select "left", "right", "up", "down", "in", "out", or "none" for your answers. Remember left = -x, right = +x, up = +y, down = -y, in = -z, and out = +z.)

1. What is the orientation of the magnetic field, if a charged particle moving upward experiences an inward force? My answer was right.
2. In what direction must the charged particle be moving, if it experiences a downward force in a magnetic field oriented to the right? My answer was left.
3. What is the orientation of the magnetic field, if a charged particle moving to the right experiences an upward force? My answer was up
4. What is the direction of the force acting on a charged particle moving out of a field oriented to the left? My answer was down
5. What is the direction of the force acting on a charged particle moving into a field oriented up? My answer was in
6. In what direction must the charged particle be moving, if it experiences a force to the left in a magnetic field oriented outward? My answer was out
