I have a (Gateway) laptop that uses Vista and see that the Security Essentials is now disabled. Tried to re-start and got message "out of date"

I read that Vista is now antiquated and assume these factors are related?

Is there anything else I can download for protection.

Microsoft Security Essentials should work. First restart you laptop sand run your software updates that should fix MS Security Essentials.
