View Full Version : Can I get my deposit back if I owe the landlord two months of rent?

I moved into house back in febuay of 2012 hoping that with are tax return we would have had the 8,000 down to start buying it but we did not get that much so we just rented the house as of may 5 2012 the told me they had a buyer for the house how long do I have to move oute is the buyer or current ower allowed to go into the house while we are moving out of it or while are belongings are in the house and if I owe the landlord two months rent if I leave the house in the same way it was when I moved in do I still get my deposit back

Why do you think you would get your deposit back if you owe money? A security deposit is to help make the landlord whole if the tenant moved out owing money for either damages or rent.

I assume you do not have a long term lease. If so, they cannot make you vacate until the lease expires (except of course if you are behind in your rent). But if you are a month to month tenant then can give you one months notice to vacate.

As for showing the house, they have to give you reasonable notice (generally 24 hours) that they will be showing the house. The same goes if they are allowing the buyers in to do inspections, take measurements etc. But the sellers or buyers can't just come by whenever they want.
