My MTD mower jumps out of gear. The pulley on top of the transmission is spinning. But the wheels are not pulling. I opened the transmission to see if anything was warn. Everything looked OK. I couldn't see inside the differential. Could it be bad? Please can someone help me.

Are you sure the trans shaft is turning there might be a sheared key between the pulley and the shaft pull off the pulley and check to see if there is a woodruff key wissing or brokeing . Good luck !

The mower will move in reverse and some forward. Then it kicks out. I will look anyway though. Thank you.

Hi,
The shift lever is out of adjustment. It is a two piece affair, so look for the bolt near the bottom of the frame on the lever and loosen it to adjust to mid-range.
Peace,
Clarke
