I have a friend who is trying to replace the ceiling fan pull switch. He identified the wires before removing them from the old switch and replaced them exactly, but the fan will not run. He installed the old switch back in, and it worked, (He would have used the old switch but the threads are broken where the cap screw holds it on). He located the "line ( hot wire) and tried touching it to the different speed wires but only got a very slow movement on one of the wires from the blades. Why would the blades not turn when making direct contact with the hot wire? I understand that maybe the wiring terminals are different on the new switch, but don't understand why direct contact with hot wire does not work. Thanks for your input.
