I had to replace my battery on my Murray Select riding mower because I thought it was a goner. When I got the new battery installed the mower started right up like new and did fine for the first cut. The next week I go to cut the grass again and it won't start. Batterys completely drained again. The batterys not getting a recharge while motors running but the mower will start with a jump start. Is this my stator gone bad?

Starting it once or twice would not drain the battery this much, you have a short somewhere. Start with the ignition swicth as the most likely short.

Hi,
Alternator could be bad, magnets under the flywheel may have come loose wiping it out, diode or regulator may be bad. The bad thing is without numbers off the engine and machine, I cannot look anything up.
Peace,
