I have a home built in 1910. Occasionally the lights will flicker. Two days ago, the power went out to most of the home for about 20 minutes. Only a few lights worked on the upper level, one outlet in the kitchen and 1 light in the basement. It came back on spontaneously without any apparent reason. The lights have flickered once since then. Today I spoke with my neighbor who said that the same thing has been happening in their home, with the power going out for 20 minutes at the same time it did in mine. My question is do I need to call an electrician to come look at my home since it seems to be involving multiple homes? And also, why would only part of my home have lost power?

You might want to inform your power company first. Since its multiple homes involved and the same timing it sounds like it could be an issue outside of your home. Its possible you may have a transformer that is going bad in your neighborhood circuit.
