Hi. I'm 17 years old and I have been on birth control for about two and a half years now. I am now taking Microgestin 1.5/30, the 21 day pack, as I have been for almost a year. I recently had sex the first day after starting my new pack, after I skipped the week to start my period. I took the first pill on my new pack, but I'm not sure if the birth control is still in my system after the week I was supposed to skip. I did not skip any pills, but I am worried that I might be pregnant. What are the chances if I took the pills as I was supposed to? Should I have taken the pills for at least a week afterwards? Help is much appreciated.

If you have been taking them consistently, and as directed, you have high effectiveness... even during the skipped week for your period. However, no form of birth control will be 100%, so pregnancy will always be a possibility.

You could, and it would be a good idea, use an additional form of birth control as well. Not another hormonal form for you, but a condom for your partner for added protection. Still not 100%, even with two, but it does lessen the chances of an unplanned pregnancy even more.
