This is not a new complaint -- replaced longtime washing machine, new model's powerful discharge pump has a flow rate overwhelming my standpipe even after snaking... Water gushes over, floods the floor. I've read that throttling the washing machine's output line can over time damage the washing machine's pump (anyone actually seen that?). I toyed with channeling the washer to a utility sink which would drain more slowly, but that sounds like a lot of time washing out a sink after every load of laundry. I saw a picture of something actually designed as a filter called a Fitrol 160 that might similarly bottle up the sudden overflow for slower draining but that's not its purpose so I'm doubtful. I've also seen a number of posts from people suggesting simply clamping the washing machine's output line to the standpipe to just force the water down. Gosh, that sounds simple and direct. My basic question: What are the possible negative consequences of sealing the connection to the standpipe?
