I was born in the U.S. and also now have Canadian Citizenship. I was discharged from a Canadian Bankruptcy in 2003. However, I still have an outstanding credit card debt in the U.S. which was disclosed on the bankruptcy documentation at the time.
There are several questions:
Do I need to file for bankruptcy in the States to work there again?
Will my family in the States have to pay this debt if I pass before them?
The lawyer in Canada said that it would not be a problem as long as I don't work in the U.S. but I have been considering to re-locate back to the States.
Will there be any problem that I am taking 9 years to get around to claiming this in the States if that is in fact what I need to do?
Thanks very much!!
