The power windows on my car suddenly stopped working. I took it to the mechanic and he replaced the motor on the windows and he says that they now work, but the he can't find a switch that works.
So far the bill for this is $411.
Since he can't find a working switch in my mind the windows don't work because there is no way to open them without the switch. He has been searching for four days while my car has been sitting there for a used window switch and he says that if he can't find a used one he will have to get a new one and that will cost me even more money.
I don't know what to do. He says for the amount of time he has put on to fix the car I would have to sell the car to pay what he would charge.
Should I pay him for the work that he has done even though he hasn't fixed the problem?
I think that $400 is a bit much to pay when it is obvious that he didn't complete the job since I can't open the windows.
I don't even know what my options are and he still has my car while he is waiting for the part that he is not sure he will be able to find.
So far I haven't paid him any money since he is not sure how much the window switch is going to cost, but I have to have my car to get back and forth to work by Monday. There are no buses that will take me and I work an overnight shift.
